There is hope and there is not

Second visit to Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital and Research Center and first radio therapy session will be today. They are not sure, or perhaps I am not, but fifteen (15) sessions promise to slow down the re-growth of tumor. People tell us that he’ll be okay but I guess they cannot see, or perhaps it’s just in my head.

Unlike other hospitals, there are more kid patients here than adults. I look at the faces of their parents, they sometimes even smile but everyone can tell it’s all hollow. I see people giving hope to each other, but I don’t think the suffering ones keep any for themselves.

Because I’ve been to a hospital called Mayo Hospital, that happens to be the most ridiculous hospital in terms of it’s architecture and other in the world, I am grateful to people who are working at SKCHRC and are running it. I really respect them.

It took me 30 minutes to find the Clinical Oncology at Mayo. I searched for the stair case for next half an hour. Disappointed, I dragged myself up the ramp, probably it was 90 degrees inclination. There are more cockroaches there than human beings. I guess the roach to human ratio there is 50:1. Then I couldn’t find my way out of the ward :( .

P.S. I drove around in circles around my house 4 times then realized where I was supposed to stop :S.

P.P.S. One thing among many other different in SKCHRC is that on the doors it states Dhakayliye.
